The Bail Post Podcast- Episode 20- The California Model with Guest Bill Armstrong

Image
California has been the epicenter of the Criminal Justice Reform/Bail Reform movement.  Our guest is Bill Armstrong who is the President of the California Bail Agents Association.  California has seen several attempts to reform and get rid of the bail industry.  These changes can be traced back to when the State changed many felony offenses and made them misdemeanor offenses and then prosecutors in several urban areas decided that they would no longer prosecute these crimes.  This proposition and decisions of prosecutors started the slide of the state of California into chaos.  Now businesses are closing because either they cannot withstand wholesale shoplifting to the tune of $25,000.00 a day or the employers cannot provide a safe place for their employees to work. Since then California's legislature has attempted to go even further. But the voters have refused to go along.    California attempted to adopt the New Jersey Plan, but voters said no. ...

California- Gascón Recall Campaign Says It Has More Than Enought Signatures To Officially Make Ballot

Image
A group seeking to recall Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said on Wednesday that it has collected enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. In a statement, the Recall DA George Gascón campaign announced it has has surpassed 566,857 signatures collected as of Tuesday, "which equates to 10% of registered voters" in the county "and is the required threshold to officially initiate a recall." "This is the most signatures ever collected in Los Angeles County for any petition," the group claimed. Organizers said their focus has now turned to collecting as many additional signatures as possible to ensure there is a necessary "cushion" to offset those that are invalidated by the county registrar of voters. The campaign's stated goal is to submit 650,000 - 700,000 total signatures or more. "We are officially within striking distance of initiating a recall against George Gascón, but the urgency for signature collection in th...

Soros Prosecutor Removed From Case After Lying About Defendant's Criminal History to "Sell" Plea Deal to Court

Image
A Virginia judge has kicked a George Soros-funded prosecutor off a case involving potentially a dozen burglaries in multiple counties, saying the prosecutor's office had concealed criminal records to "sell" a plea bargain. Loudoun County circuit court judge James Plowman said the office of Commonwealth's Attorney Buta Biberaj (D.) was "deliberately misleading the Court and the public" about "a possible 12 burglary crime spree spanning 4 counties over 10 days." In a plea agreement, Biberaj's office failed to note the offender had recently pleaded guilty to felonies and had pending charges and prior convictions as a minor, according to Plowman. Fox 5 on Saturday first reported on the judge's order to remove Biberaj from the case. "The Commonwealth is deliberately misleading the Court, and the public, in an effort to ‘sell’ the plea agreement for some reason that has yet to be explained," Plowman wrote in his order. The unprecedent...

L.A.- Criminals Begging for Plea Deals Now Before Likely Election to Remove Gascon

Image
Amid the increasing likelihood that Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon will face a recall vote this November, as well as the successful recall of San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin on Tuesday, a growing number of LA County criminals are making plea deals over worries that Gascon’s progressive criminal justice policies will go away due to the impending recall. As of the end of May, over 500,000 of the needed 566,857 signatures have been collected. While groups for the recall have said that close to 800,000 are needed by the July 6th deadline in case of any duplicate or invalid votes, there will likely be enough for a recall collected in the last month of signature gathering. With signatures expected to continue to come in due to backlash against Gascon’s “reforms,” such as ending policies that had juveniles being tried as adults, many crimes reduced to misdemeanors or having jail time reduced, and the removal of cash bail for most crimes despite California voting to keep it in...

L.A. District Attorney Must Follow California’s Three-Strikes Law For Sentencing Enhancements, Appeals Court Rules

Image
A California appeals court has upheld a lower court’s injunction that blocks L.A. District Attorney George Gascón from ordering prosecutors not to pursue certain sentencing enhancements. Gascón enacted a series of directives when he assumed office, including one that ordered deputy D.A.'s not to pursue sentence enhancements, which can add years to incarceration, based on prior convictions. That restriction on “three-strike” enhancements led to a lawsuit brought by the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, the union that represents Gascón’s prosecutors. The union argued that a D.A. cannot dismiss hundreds of enhancements all at once. L.A. County Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant ruled in a preliminary injunction last year that Gascón’s ban was illegal. Laurie Levenson, criminal law professor at Loyola Law School in L.A. and former federal prosecutor, said the ruling means that the blanket directive was “unlawful” under the California statutory scheme. “Practically, it mea...

Bad Bail Reform- D.C. Edition

Image
Two George Soros-backed prosecutors in suburban Washington, D.C., bounced a serial looter who committed multiple grand larcenies and assaulted a cop between their offices for years without a felony conviction. Fairfax County commonwealth's attorney Steve Descano (D.) and Arlington County commonwealth's attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti (D.) since 2020 dismissed or declined to prosecute a 25-year-old Maryland resident for nearly a dozen charges related to larceny. The looting incidents amounted to thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise and include felony offenses, including two grand larcenies and one assault on a police officer, making the offender eligible for years behind bars. The prosecutors found the looter guilty of just a few misdemeanors. No verdict levied more than a few hundred dollars in fines, and he served no time in prison. The out-of-state offender, Ronald Thomas, spent virtually no time in jail after his arrests thanks to bail reform policies instituted by De...

Glenn Beck Discusses the Cause of Rising Crime?

Image
Glenn Beck discusses the cause of rising crime with Bill O'Reilly. The two discuss how George Soros is MAJORLY to blame for rising crime in some of our largest cities, even though most Americans are unaware of his culpability, Bill O’Reilly says. Also, O'Reilly breaks down how the ‘prince of darkness’ is funding campaigns for RADICAL district attorneys everywhere from New York City to San Francisco. Crime, thanks to Soros is getting SO bad, O’Reilly says, that citizens in some cities could be in everyday danger without even realizing it…

Soros Prosecutors Are Murdering Criminal Justice Reform

Image
For the first two weeks of March, a dark cloud loomed over East Coast cities. Someone was traveling between New York and Washington, D.C., shooting homeless people as if for sport. At least two were dead and three wounded. Who could be so wantonly callous? On March 15, Gerald Brevard III, a career criminal and drifter, was arrested in connection with one of the murders. He is also under suspicion for the others. It turns out that Brevard was a free man only because a Virginia prosecutor systematically refuses to do his job. He reportedly even demands that his staff seek the lightest possible sentences for criminals, including the most violent. Steve Descano, a northern Virginia commonwealth's attorney whose political career has been bankrolled by George Soros in six-figure helpings, had Brevard in custody as recently as December 2020. Initially, Brevard faced three felony charges in Fairfax County and a life sentence in connection with a burglary and an earlier incident in which ...

Slate- The Wrong Prosecutors Are Being Recalled

Image
An Illinois state representative just introduced a bill to authorize a recall against State’s Attorney Kim Foxx for creating “a crisis of confidence in the Cook County judicial system.” In June, San Francisco residents will decide whether to oust District Attorney Chesa Boudin, elected in November 2019. And in Los Angeles, an effort to recall DA George Gascón, who took office less than 18 months ago, has support from the Association of Deputy District Attorneys for Los Angeles County, a group representing local prosecutors. (Initial recall attempts against Gascón and Boudin, both launched in 2021, failed to gather enough signatures to qualify for the ballot.) While it is true that any California elected official can be recalled for any reason, the provision authorizing this remedy in the state constitution was designed as a bulwark against corruption and malfeasance. Should the Illinois bill become law, it would do the same in Foxx’s case. What have these prosecutors done to warr...

Three Words Biden Could Not Say in New York Crime Speech- "Woke Rogue Prosecutors"

Image
With violent crime skyrocketing across America and the blame at the feet of the Democrats where it rightly belongs, President Joe Biden went to New York on Thursday for an urgent presidential clean-up mission. He had to do something about the Democrat Party’s mess on crime as the November mid-term elections approach. So Biden decided to make a speech and gaslight the nation. It oozed sincerity. And if there’s one thing he can do, it’s to ooze sincerity. But a critical component was missing. It was a simple thing really, but vitally important to a president who reportedly loves dogs. It was as if Biden forgot the plastic bag that most of us take with us when we walk our dogs. And the president just left it there. The Democrats are now in agony over crime, from their support of Black Lives Matter rioters who were quite useful leading up to the 2020 elections, to their war on cops, and their defund-the-police push. And all that led to the elections of a number of soft-on-crime rogue...

Soros' D.A. Accused Of Rigging Case Against Cop

Image
Embattled liberal San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin is facing a recall election this summer and the latest headlines out of the City by the Bay this week are unlikely to improve his prospects. The Chief of Police in his city announced on Thursday that the SFPD would no longer cooperate with Boudin’s office in the prosecution of any police officers accused of misconduct or charged with crimes. The reason for this decision stems from the claims of a prosecutor working for Boudin who said that she hid potentially exculpatory evidence from the defense attorneys representing a cop who was accused of excessive use of force. The prosecutor went public with her story, saying that she was ordered to withhold the evidence and feared that she would lose her job if she failed to comply. The chief of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) said his department won’t work with the district attorney’s office on criminal investigations of police officers anymore after a whistleblowe...

Virginia- Former Attorneys for Prosecutor's Office say Failing to Follow Law "Tip of the Iceberg"

Image
Concerns about the commonwealth’s attorney’s office are growing louder in Loudoun County.  A county supervisor is speaking out saying the office failed to follow the law in a student sex assault case, and former attorneys from the office tell FOX 5, that’s only the tip of the iceberg.   Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj has come under fire for her handling of a case where a boy sexually assaulted a girl at one high school then was released and allowed to go to a different school where he did it again.  Caleb Kershner is a Loudoun County Supervisor, but also an attorney. He ended up representing the perpetrator at the end of the case.   In a Facebook post this weekend, Kershner wrote that the commonwealth’s attorney’s office was "simply unprepared to move forward with the case" within the 21-day window required by law when juveniles are held in custody.  This allowed the teen to be released and to re-offend. Biberaj has blamed a delay in rape ...

Two Dozen Progressive Prosecutors Linked to Soros Money, Report Finds

Image
While billionaire and millionaire philanthropists often seek to influence national policy, George Soros has long made headlines for his financial support of progressive prosecutors, many of whom push policies criticized for emboldening criminals in major American cities. A total of 24 incumbent local prosecutors received financial support from Soros on the campaign trail, according to a new report by Parker Thayer of the Capital Research Center. “George Soros has gotten involved on a very local level, doing very specific things with a lot of money,” Thayer told The National Desk (TND). Thayer is referring to Soros’s substantial donations toward the state’s district attorney races, which has helped a considerable number of progressive chief prosecutors get elected. These 24 chief prosecutors are all linked by their progressive policies which, according to Thayer, include policies of extinguishing cash bail and reducing sentences and prosecution of misdemeanors. “There's a direct c...

George Soros Supported D.A.s Have Blood on Their Hands For the Rise In Killings Nationwide

Image
The crime wave sweeping across the country is the direct result of a years-long campaign by George Soros to bankroll the election of far-left district attorneys committed to undermining law and order. Over the past six years or so, Soros has poured tens of millions of dollars into the campaigns of DA candidates from coast to coast, achieving a remarkable degree of success by simply overwhelming all the other candidates. Whereas normal DA candidates typically run on five-figure budgets, Soros-backed DA candidates routinely enjoy seven-figure war chests. Soros is able to do this because federal campaign-finance limitations do not apply to local races. Many states have adopted their own laws capping the amounts that individuals and/or political action committees can contribute to candidates, but those laws are often riddled with loopholes. In some cases, the limits only apply to statewide races. In other cases, Soros can circumvent individual contribution limits by funneling money t...

Organized Crime Expands To LA Targeting Nordstroms; 8th Smash And Grab in a Week

Image
A looting gang have targeted an LA Nordstrom, making off with eight luxury handbags and assaulting a cop - the latest in a string of smash-and-grab raids to plague California.  Five people, one wearing an orange wig, entered the open store in Canoga Park shortly before 7pm on Wednesday and sprayed a security guard with 'some kind of chemical' in front of terrified shoppers, police said. The thieves sped off and managed to escape with thousands of dollars worth of handbags despite multiple police cruisers, as well as fire trucks and ambulances, responding to the raid. It is the eighth smash-and-grab robbery in California in the last week where thieves have made off with tens of thousands of dollars in luxury goods, amid soft misdemeanor theft laws in the Democrat-run state.  Around 20 robbers smashed their way into a Nordstrom at The Grove retail complex in LA on Monday night, making off with $5,000 worth of merchandise; and a CVS pharmacy in the city was struck just an ...
