ACLU Moves to Dallas to Sue, AG Follows



Several inmates, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Civil Rights Corps, and Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), are suing Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown for the immediate release of inmates from Dallas County’s Lew Sterrett Justice Center.
A hearing is set in Sanchez et al v. Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown before United States District Court Judge Ada Brown on April 21. 
The plaintiffs petitioned for the release of all medically-vulnerable inmates and other inmates who are not medically-vulnerable in order to reduce the population of the jail so that a six-foot social distance can be maintained.
With a jail population of over 5,000, Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 34 confirmed COVID-19 inmate cases this week. No deaths have been reported.
The State of Texas, Governor Greg Abbott, and Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a motion to intervene in the case over concerns that this lawsuit could result in the release of rapists, arsonists, armed robbers, and killers.

What has been the Response of the Activists to the Increasing Numbers of Failures to Appear as a Result of the Simple Release Measures that they Push? 18-year-old Faces Murder Charge; Alleged Stabbing in North Oak Cliff

An 18-year-old man is in custody in connection with a fatal stabbing Friday night in the Kessler Stevens neighborhood of north Oak Cliff, Dallas police say.  Jose Lucio Villeda-Gavarrete was arrested after the incident on a murder charge, police said. His bail information was not immediately available Saturday.  Officers responded to the stabbing call at about 11:43 p.m. in the 600 block of North Ewing Avenue, near East Jefferson Boulevard and East Eighth Street.  To see more CLICK HERE .

Meet the New President of PBT- Irma Montemayor

Is 2024 the Year of the Woman for the Professional Bondsmen of Texas?  At the recent annual meeting, Irma Montemayor was elected president of PBT.  She will serve for the next two years.  She is only the third woman to be elected President.  She has been involved in the bonding industry since she was 18.
