The PBT Newsletter for April 2022 Has Been Released

The April 2022 Newsletter for the Professional Bondsmen of Texas has been released.  In this editiion of the newsletter, you will find five articles.  The first article highlights the Villareal family, bondsmen in Tom Green County and the volunteer work they do with children.

You will also find an article about Right on Crime.  This is a continuation of a series started in our last quarter's newsletter where PBT has taken a historical few of past positions of Right on Crime to see how they stood up to the test of time.  This newsletter reviews Right on Crime's position on New York's disasterous bail reform.

Additionally, you will find an article from New Mexico discussing the Arnold Foundation Risk Assessment tool which recently recommended release of an individual charged with a double murder.

The next article is addressing an issue out of Houston where there is a discussion about why crime is increasing so much there.  The advocates of bail reform in Houston have chosen to defend their reforms (which are very similar to the ones in New York) and have chosen to blame private surety bail for crime increasing.  The advocates ignore the fact that the corresponding increase in crime mirrors the decline in the use of private surety bail.

There is also a bonus article highlighting that the final changes to Texas bail law go into effect today, April 1, 2022 which requires magistrates to review the defendant's criminal history before setting bail.
