Pensacola Man Abandons Child, Dog at Walmart After Fleeing Bail Bondsman

A Pensacola man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly abandoning his child inside Walmart and leaving his dog inside a vehicle that was turned off, according to an arrest report.

A bail bondsman was attempting to take 27-year-old Deangelo Meriweather into custody for a warrant when he ran outside of Walmart, leaving his child and dog on the property, according to an arrest report.

The child was brought back to his residence by deputies and the Florida Department of Children and Families was notified, according to an arrest report. Animal control was also contacted to take custody of the dog.

Deputies eventually located Meriweather and took him into custody. He is charged with neglecting a child without great bodily harm, abandoning an animal, and two counts of failing to appear for a felony offense.

Meriweather was booked into Escambia County Jail Wednesday morning. He is held on no bond.
