Good People, Good Food, Good Conversation and Good Competition- PBT's Upcoming 2024 Spring Fling
Wednesday:
This year, Wednesday evening will see a new element to the celebration. PBT is sponsoring its first ever steak cook off competition. PBT currently has thirteen entries who are willing to put their reputations on the line to find out who can cook the best steak as selected by our blue ribbon panel of judges. The cooks will be performing under the harsh lights (and harsh jokes) of all the spectators supporting and heckling them all along the way.
Before the cooking will begin, PBT will auction off the entries in a "Calcutta" style competition where spectators can buy the cook who they think will win the competition. Spectators can also bid on the cook they think will be "Dead A** Last" in the competition.
Mike Byrd has participated in barbecue competitions for many years, and some would think that he has an inside track to win the whole thing, but others who know Mike know that he is one "spiked" spice away from going down in defeat. Chris Blaylock from ABC is coming to town with his grandmother's secret recipe for cooking steak. Will this be enough?
Rumor has it that Ken W. Good has been practicing for the last few months to ensure that he wins the competition. Another rumor is that Ken accidentally poisoned his dog with his first steak cooking attempt. The Meekers, Glenn and Paul, could be the sleeper choice. Juan Gonzalez, from South Texas, has been very quiet about his chances. Does he already realize he has no hope? Or is he just going to let his cooking speak for him? Can he stand the ridicule that he will receive if Ken beats him in the cookoff? Can Ken stand the ridicule if Juan places higher than Ken?
Kris Keyton is from Arkansas. Does he really think he can show Texans how to cook steak? Last we heard Mike Whitlock was trying to check his Big Green Egg at the airport to bring to Texas; but all that came in the end were Easter Eggs.
Sheby Burns and Drew Johnson have to guard against their steaks ending up dry like their personalities.
Several people have asked who is Tony Rodriguez? It sounds like a ringer to us.
John McCluskey is coming to the competition with many years of grilling experience. Can he beat the champ Mike? Will spectators drive him up in the auction as the natural second choice to win? Jim Portman is entering the cookoff all the way from California. He says he has his own tricks ready to go. Does he realize that he is cooking for a Texas audience and they will not appreciate his pineapple steak recipe? We will find out soon!
If you are reading this and you are thinking this was very tame, , then you are just the person we encourage to come and join in the fun, joking and ridicule.
If you think you have an idea on who will win the steak cook off and who may be last, please vote in the poll at the bottom of this page.
Thursday:
This is going to be great fun!
