PBT'S 2025 Call To Action No. 1- HB 799


 CALL TO ACTION NO. 1- HB 799

This is PBT's first Call to Action for the 2025 Legislative Session. The Criminal Jurisprudence Committee in the House will be meeting on March 18, 2025 to consider various bail bills.  The committee will meet at 10:30 am to take public testimony on bills set for consideration. If the committee does not complete its hearing at the time that the Texas House goes into session, then the committee will take a break and reconvene after the House business is complete for the day.

The committee will be considering 5 bail bills. These bills are:

  • HB 75 by Smithee (SB 9)- Supported by PBT- This bill contains tweaks to the Bail Reform bill passed 2 sessions ago. It adds offenses to the list of charges to which a personal bond is not authorized.
  • HB 76 by Smithee (SB 40)- Supported by PBT- This bill states that government funds cannot be given to charitable bail fund to bond people out of jail.
  • HJR 15 by Smithee (SJR 5)- Supported by PBT- Proposed Constitutional amendment to broaden preventative detention.
  • HJR 16 by Smithee (SJR 1)- Supported by PBT- Proposed Constitutional amendment which states that if a person is in the country illegally and they are accused of committing a crime that is a felony, they are not eligible for bail.
  • HB 799 by Moody- Strongly opposed by PBT- This bill undoes many of the changes made by SB6 and hold that all misdemeanors and state jail felonies shall be released on personal bond.
We are asking you to come to Austin, Texas to sign cards in support to HB75, HB 76, HJR15 and HJR16. We are also asking you to sign cards in opposition to HB 799.

We need a good showing to oppsoe HB 799. You can see this bill by CLICKING HERE.

We will have a group of people at the Capitol in the cafeteria to help people who come to sign cards. Once you have signed your cards you are free to leave. We will have people scheduled to testify against these bills on behalf of the industry.
